Matoke Art Studio - Exhibition Mark Kassi!

Matoke Tours is grateful to make our business out of the beauty of Uganda. Of course we focus on wildlife, culture, nature and the great apes, but there is more to Uganda then "only" that. Uganda is full of talent; We are more than proud to promote the most talented young artists in Uganda's Art scene. These people are not street artists, they don't just play around, but they are considered the future big artists. We give them a stage, so they can show their talent and skills. We welcome you in our office to have a look at their exhibitions in the Matoke Art Gallery. You can have a look at their work and be surprised by their techniques, color use and creativeness. You can buy their art work as well; Not only to bring a great souvenir from Uganda back home, but as well to have some unique piece of professional Ugandan art in your home!

Note: Matoke Art gallery is not a genuine souvenir shop. We give professional talent a stage to show on an international level what they are capable off.

In 2010 and Matoke Tours selected two great young artists; Mark Kassi and Anwar. We welcome you to read more about their background and see more about their work.

Mark Byamugisha Kassi 'Abstract wildlife'

Matoke Tours is proud to present you one of Uganda's finest Artists: Mark Kassi

Born in November 1978, Byamugisha.Mark.Kassi is a graduate of Kyambogo University where he did a Diploma in Textiles and Fabric Decoration. However his earlier passion for painting coerced him to pursue a self taught career in painting, something he started on his own in first year when he realized painting wasn't part of his course unit at campus!

The artist experimented with various art forms and media settling for Oil and Acrylic painting. Then Ink and Graphite for drawing media. His paintings have a unique texture got by pasting natural fiber to the canvas, a typical identity of his works. He also applies paint to the canvas in form of segments, a style he owes to his studies of fabric decoration where he used Appliqué which is stitching colored bits of cloth to a bigger fabric.

He is motivated by social issues; his works are a reflection of wildlife, the people he meets, their lifestyles, cultural values and history which must be told by us, something he seeks to express in his works both in realism and abstract form!

The artist has exhibited jointly before at Nomo Gallery, Uganda German Cultural Society (UGCS}, Sheraton Uganda, Tulifanya Gallery and at The Golden Tulip hotel Darussalam. Solo exhibitions at Home of Edirisa kabale, Catch the Sun Gallery Kampala, Fort Jesus Mombasa and at White Sands hotel Mombasa.
